In Seattle, the pressing need to maintain optimal indoor air quality has led to increased awareness and adoption of Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERV) and Heat Recovery Ventilators (HRV) systems. These innovative solutions offer a better approach to dealing with common issues such as excess moisture, stale indoor air, and the influx of pollutants. By systematically removing stale air from inside your property and replacing it with fresh outdoor air, ERV and HRV systems play a big role in enhancing the living environment.

When combined with our dehumidification services, they offer a fantastic solution for managing indoor humidity levels, preventing mold growth, and protecting your property and the people in it. Look to SMART Electric, Heating, and Air for the dehumidification services you deserve.

ERV/HRV’s and Humidity Control

Our Brands

ERVs and HRVs are not always necessary in every home. However, they will significantly increase the comfort and climate controllability in a home with ductless-only applications. An ERV/HRV should be installed with one return and one supply in every standard room, with a few extra for larger spaces. Or directly mounted to the conventional system with only an exhaust and fresh air vent needed. The ERV/HRV will take the set amount of outside air and mix it with the return from the ventilation system. The outside air intake is around 30% before it is heated in the core and reintroduced into the home or system.

In a ductless application, an ERV/HRV installed with a return and supply in every room is very efficient and oftentimes called the best system for comfortable living. The technology is rapidly growing, with some systems introducing AI control boards that help the system control static pressures. Improved accessory options are also available, with commercial brands bringing their knowledge and products to residential systems.

Humidity Control

Our Brands

In the greater Seattle area, a humidifier or dehumidifier is not always needed, and a portable product can do the trick most times. When a whole home dehumidifier is needed, you can tell by the musty, heavy air or strange smell. A humidifier is needed when the air or climate is very dry, often noticed with itchy skin, dry throat, or itchy eyes.

We recommend using portable products first before making the investment of installing a whole home system. Please let us know if your water is heavy in metals like calcium and magnesium, which would make our equipment selection for the humidifier a low-conductive canister for steam humidity. We recommend using a steam humidifier directly in line with your supply air on the trunkline.

Why You Should Prioritize Improvements for Your Indoor Air Quality

Improving indoor air quality is all about creating a safe and healthy environment for you and your loved ones. Poor indoor air quality can lead to plenty of health problems, from minor irritations like headaches and allergic reactions to more severe conditions such as asthma and other respiratory issues. Introducing HRV and ERV systems, along with dehumidification services, can significantly improve indoor air quality by removing pollutants, allergens, and excess moisture from your home.

The Risks of Not Dehumidifying Your Home

Failing to maintain proper humidity levels inside your home can have several adverse effects. Excess moisture can damage the structural integrity of your property, leading to costly repairs. Environments with high humidity are breeding grounds for mold and mildew, which can cause health issues for the inhabitants. Not dehumidifying your home also puts additional strain on your HVAC and cooling systems, something that can take cash out of your wallet that you shouldn't have to lose.

Commercial Dehumidification Services

Our commercial dehumidification services cater to businesses and property owners who wish to safeguard their premises from the detrimental effects of excess moisture. By maintaining optimal humidity levels, businesses can protect their inventory, especially if it includes moisture-sensitive products. Additionally, a comfortable and healthy working environment boosts employee productivity and well-being. Our services make sure that commercial properties in and around Seattle — regardless of size — can benefit from enhanced air quality and moisture control.

Fully Duct Your HRV and ERV Systems

A properly ducted HRV or ERV system is integral to its effectiveness. These systems work by leveraging exhaust air to precondition incoming fresh air, which can significantly reduce the load on your heating and cooling system. The strategic installation of exhaust ducts in areas prone to high humidity or pollutant levels, such as bathrooms, kitchens, and utility rooms, allows for the targeted removal of stale air. Meanwhile, ducts designed to deliver fresh air are placed in living spaces where occupants spend the most time, such as bedrooms and living rooms. This will provide a constant supply of fresh air, improving indoor air quality and making your space more comfortable and healthier.

How Seattle Can Benefit From HRV and ERV Systems

Seattle's climate poses unique challenges to homeowners, particularly regarding indoor air quality. The city's high levels of rainfall and humidity can lead to excess moisture inside homes, creating ideal conditions for mold and mildew. ERV and HRV systems address these challenges head-on by regulating indoor humidity levels and making sure that the stale, moisture-laden air is efficiently exchanged with fresh, dry outdoor air. This helps control humidity and reduces the risk of mold growth for homes and businesses in the region.

I really can't recommend this company enough. I spent a long time getting multiple bids from electricians about our very complicated, long list of tasks (new circuits, bathroom fans, ceiling lights, fixing plugs, etc.) for our new home, and I'm so happy I ended up with Smart Electric. Joe the owner, who did our bid, was amazing in communicating with me about all our list items, and helped me find an unconventional solution to a unique problem we had with our old house, one that multiple other contractors wouldn't even touch. He even spent time on the phone with me on his days off helping me work out this out. We did the initial bid over the phone with photos, which worked out well and took up less of my time than other visiting electricians, and I liked that I could text questions to Joe afterwards to refine our list and make sure the products I bought for installation would work. Their pricing was very competitive. Steve, Jake, and Earl who came to do the work were awesome. Great communicators and really nice guys, they methodically went through our list and got everything done quickly and professionally. There were some wonky mysterious things with our wiring, but they worked hard to figure those out and get them working correctly. They went above and beyond to make sure we were happy with the work, and were very professional about one small mishap. They wore shoe covers in the home, and I was especially happy with their thorough cleanup afterwards -- can't even tell there were contractors here today! I already have them scheduled to come back in Jan to do another job for us. We plan on being loyal customers in the future!

I cannot say enough good things about this company. Joe and Gabriel just came out to help sort out a weird breaker issue. Turns out my house isn't haunted, it just needed an electrical fix! Thanks guys! For details, see below! *This is the thrid time I have used Smart Electric, I used them for light install and 2 electrical updating issues. *Everyone is super friendly, from the office staff to the power rangers (and yes I call Electric engineers power rangers). *Timley - I didn't wait more than a few hours for a call back and not longer than a day for service *Fixed the issue for very little $$ - I was shocked, they are easily half the price of their competitors. *So communicative, told me everything they were doing, issues and fixes. *They do so much more! I'm about to hire them for a water tank replacement and they also do HVAC?! Now I have a 1 stop shop.

Honest, available, affable, punctual, and skilled. I would not use any other electric company. They completed major (generator) and small (car charger) projects flawlessly.

I had an appointment to get my ancient gas furnace tuned up and I have to say, the technician Kevin did an excellent job. If I could give him more than 5 stars I would. It started with how nice and polite he was. He put a mask on when I asked without giving me a hard time. This is very appreciated. Then he noticed something was not hooked up (the fan only function) and he fixed it. Then he noticed the holder for my filter wasn't seated right so he fixed that (which was no small amount of work), and then he cleaned two areas of the furnace I NEVER saw anyone else clean in the 15 years I have lived here. Then he cleaned everything up and made sure to explain everything well and made sure I was happy with everything. I cant even believe the excellent service. On top of that he was quick, efficient but did not make me feel rushed. This ancient furnace is working better than it has in years! Do not hesitate to go with Smart Electric - they are top notch - oh yeah - on top of all of this great service, the price was $100 less than other companies I had out to do the same job! The other companies charged more and did less. Smart Electric just got a customer for life. I highly recommend!!!
Best electricians ever! I called them in to troubleshoot an issue that had occurred when another company installed an EV charger at my home, which that company could not find in a 2.5 hour troubleshoot call. Smart Electric identified the issue in 10 seconds, fixed it AND further cleaned up their work by adding some clamps and missing screws at my breaker. All while not charging me for the call and contacting the other electrician to let them know I shouldn't be charged for the previous troubleshoot. I would recommend them to anyone and will be using them for all future electrical work.

This company was great from Setting up an appointment, pre approving a detailed invoice and the actual work done. I was most impressed with the honesty. Don't see a lot of that anymore. Unfortunately.
